1960 – NASA’s Ruby Rod

In the early 1960’s MIT Labs was attempting to precisely measure the distance from the surface of the earth to the moon for NASA. Meller was asked to build a ruby laser rod, a critical component, as part of the project. This was the pivot point for Meller’s entrance into the precision optics industry. Since then, the Meller name has become synonymous with quality. To view the full history of Meller Optics visit www.melleroptics.com
