SPINEL OPTICS
ROBUST AND PRECISION FINISHED

spinel optics

A line of spinel flat windows, domes, hemispheres, and spherical lenses that are optically clear and over 6X stronger and 3X harder than glass is being introduced by Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island.

Meller Spinel Optics feature excellent transmission in the UV through MWIR (350 nm to 5.50 microns) and exhibit 1600 Knoop hardness for resistance to environmental abrasion and impact. Optically isotropic which eliminates birefringence effects, spinel electro-optical windows and lenses provide superior refractive index stability with respect to temperature from Aerodynamic heating, and are over 6X stronger and 3X harder than glass.

Ideally suited for a wide range of military and commercial applications, Meller Spinel Optics retain nearly 75% of their strength up to 1000ºC, exhibit 14.6 W/m*K thermal conductivity, and a refractive index of 1.723 at 50 microns. Offered in a variety of sizes and thicknesses, they can be finished with <60-40 scratch-dig surface quality, <1 fringe flatness at
633 nm, <1 arc-min parallelism, and polished bevel on two sides.

Meller Spinel Optics are priced according to configuration and quantity. Quotations for finished parts or secondary grinding and polishing of parts are available upon request.
