A line of high-purity calcined alumina powders that are ready to mix with de-ionized water for a wide range of optics polishing applications is available from Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island. Meller Microlux Alumina Powders are ideally suited for polishing optics on spot blocks and can produce surface finishes to 10-5 scratch-dig on a wide range of hard and soft materials. Featuring two grades and seven particle sizes from 0.05 to 3.0 microns, they are ready to mix with de-ionized water and can be used for finishing optics mounted on pitch or aluminum plates. Featuring a Microlux-R version with large agglomerated particles for aggressive grinding and lapping that break down under pressure for final polishing, Meller Microlux Alumina Powders are 99.98% pure. For fine grinding and uniform polishing, Microlux-RZ with 99.99% pure de-agglomerated powders and controlled particle sizes is also offered.
