Custom sapphire lenses, windows, and prisms designed for use in medical lasers, endoscopes, oximeters, and other instruments have been introduced by Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island.

Meller Sapphire Medical Optics are impervious to harsh chemicals, blood, and medications and are extremely durable and available as lenses, windows, and prisms. Ideally suited for instruments that are in frequent contact with the skin and cleaned frequently, sapphire is impervious to chlorine and fluorine gas, and can transmit from the UV to 4.7 microns.

Featuring Mohs 9 hardness which is second only to diamond, Meller Sapphire Medical Optics are optically clear and manufactured to OEM specifications in sizes from 0.25” to 10” dia. in round or square, concave or convex, and flat or stepped configurations. Sapphire windows transmit up to 85% uncoated and can be coated to transmit > 99%, depending upon thickness.
